Exploring block draft weave structures on 8 shafts

  • Ewenny Road Bridgend Bridgend, Wales, CF35 5AP United Kingdom (map)

A new workshop for 2026!

Especially designed for those who have got to grips with the weaving basics on a straight draft set-up, and are now ready to delve deeper and explore 8 shaft ‘block draft’ warp set-ups. We’ll explore block twills on a striped warp to create aesthetically complex patterns that will be a joy to weave. I’ll also introduce you to corduroy, monk’s belt and distorted weaves over this in-depth 2 day workshop. This will open up another realm of weave structures for you to explore and experiment with :-)

This is a workshop for owners of 8 shaft looms, who are confident in setting up a loom according to the warp plan instructions I will send you. You’ll need to bring your own 8 shaft loom set-up and be ready to weave for this workshop - but please do get in touch if you feel you need extra support beforehand to help prepare.

Detailed handouts will be provided.

Suitable for those with basic weave experience.

PLEASE BRING: your prepared 8 shaft table loom, shuttles, notebook and pen.

WARP PLAN:Upon booking, please email Laura info@laurathomas.co.uk to request the warping instructions.

WARP YARN: I recommend using a yarn suitable to be sett at 15-20epi. This can be cotton, cottolin, wool or a similar quality.

WEFT YARN: Please bring the yarn you used for your warp, plus any other interesting yarns from your stash. You are also welcome to experiment with yarns from Laura's store. This is included in the cost of the workshop.
