Ceri Jones and Laura Thomas will share their experiences as independent curators and artists, through images, practical activities and a tour around the new exhibitions at Ruthin Craft Centre.
They will discuss their diversity of experience, from the small-scale to the large-scale, local and international. The maker’s perspective will be key, exploring how curation opportunities can offer a stimulating counterbalance to ones’ core practice. Developing exhibition concepts and making proposals will be demystified, along with discussion about pragmatics such as planning, logistics and marketing.
Activities will consider the selection and placement of objects, the tone of an exhibition and the messages it is setting out to convey. Please bring along with you a single domestic object of your choice and any unwanted magazines.
Who is this for? This workshop is for artists and creatives who are interested in learning about curatorial decisions for fine art, craft and design scenarios and how to curate your own show.
What to bring: please bring lunch or there is a café at the venue. You may like to bring a pen & notepad. Please bring along with you a single domestic object of your choice and any unwanted magazines.
